The story behind the game isn't really about the story, it's about the gameplay. The six main game modes are represented on the main menu by pentagonal facets on a stylised football. These include Open Play, World League, The International Cup, The Under 23 International Cup, P.K., and Scenario Mode.

The gameplay is all about controlling your team on the pitch. You can train and edit your teams, change formations and tactics before a match, and adjust camera angles, make substitutions and tactical changes during a match. But ultimately, it's about making passes, scoring goals, and winning matches. The game has a lot of depth to it, with customisation options for team difficulty and motivation.
