Torino 2006 is the official game of the XX Winter Olympic Games held in Turin, Italy, and the eight in the line of multi-event IOC licensed titles. The game includes 15 events scattered on 8 disciplines: Alpine Skiing ( Downhill , Super G , Giant Slalom and Slalom ), Ski Jump ( Normal and
Gameplay requires more reflexes than button-bashing, as players must use skill and quick reflexes to succeed. Alpine Skiing is a matter of choosing when to crouch to gain speed and when to carve the snow for sharper turns. The penalty for missing gates depends on the difficulty level chosen: six misses are allowed on easy, three in medium, and none on hard.
Ski Jump requires keeping balance while descending the hill, jumping at the correct time, and counteracting the wind's effect for maximum distance. Cross Country and Biathlon are relaxed disciplines where players must keep the best trajectory possible while looking out for straight paths that can be used for short sprints and downhill slopes.
Skating disciplines require a strong, well-timed start, and accurate button-pressing as the skater makes each step. Bobsled and Luge are similar, with the addition of making minimal path changes in Bobsled. Nordic Combined is a Large hill ski jump that sets the start time for each competitor.
Players can compete in all 15 events or just 9, create their own competition, or aim for medals and score tables. Challenges include hitting targets in Biathlon, completing a perfect Bobsled start, winning gold medals, and beating top records on every event. The difficulty level affects events differently, impacting CPU-controlled players and gate misses.
