Story and Game Objectives
Story
My greatest fear has become a reality. The damage is far more widespread than I had imagined. I must take action while there is still time. I must find someone... Someone to send into the Living...
Game Objectives
The "Living" is the continuation of the Mist CD-ROM and the novel *Mist*. There is an old saying: "The answer can be found where you least expect it" (literally: 'where you have forgotten'). In fact, the fact that "there are no secrets in the Living" is the secret of the Living.
Becoming immersed in the world and considering whether you yourself exist there is important. Explore the world carefully, and do not neglect paying attention to everything. You must not overlook anything; it may be that nothing should be overlooked.
Keep brief notes in mind, and pay attention to what you encounter. There is always a hint provided for every puzzle. Recall what your purpose is in the other places of the Living, and try to logically construct things by linking them together like a puzzle.
Terminology Explanation
Duni's Civilization
The civilization of the musical creators. Those called Duni possessed the art of traveling to the many existing parallel worlds by connecting to them. They achieved this using a notation and description of the essence of things, written in special ink and paper with words of a certain kind.
They used this art to bring prosperity one after another, but Duni's civilization was destroyed by a disaster. Their successors hold the art...
Duni's Book
A book that is the product of Duni's civilization. It is a tool for creating worlds and belongs to the world it produces. By inscribing on the book with mysterious words, one can create a world with different physical laws and produce all things, creatures, and nature.
However, if there are contradictions in the inscribed content, that world will eventually collapse.
Connection and Connection Book
The act of going to a world created by Duni's art is called 'connecting to that world'. When creating a new world, two books are made: one describes the world itself, and the other is a Connection Book for returning to the original world.
To enter a created world, such as the 'First Era', simply place your palm on that book and 'connect'. In the next moment, you will be 'connected' to that world and can enter it.
To return to the original world, the Connection Book is necessary. It is the only passage to the original world. If you do not have a Connection Book to the original world, you will be left stranded in that world forever.
Livan (5th Era)
This world was described and created by Gaine, but it is now on the verge of being torn apart. Atlas and Catherine stole Gaine's Connection Book and locked Gaine in this world.
People were created together with this world and possess their own unique language and culture. Even in the game, they will speak to you in Livan. To understand them, you need to carefully observe their actions and decipher what they are trying to say.
Prison Book
Although its appearance is similar to a Connection Book, this is a book that will lock the user in a world of darkness forever.
To escape from a Prison Book, another person must use the same Prison Book and go to the same world as the one who is locked in. By doing so, the first person who was locked in will be able to return to this world.
