Forza Motorsport 4 is the fourth installment in the Xbox exclusive race simulation series, allowing players to race in a realistic setting with many car and race licenses. The main career mode, World Tour Mode, takes players to different races on locations all over the world.
The game's opponents now have adaptable AI based on the player's performance, making each race more challenging. Players are encouraged to outbrake their opponents instead of trying to pass them on straight sections. Classic game modes like bumper to bumper, drift, autocross, and multiple-heat are still present, along with a rivals mode that allows players to race against friends and online players, even when they're offline.
Cars no longer level up in the same way as previous entries, but instead receive manufacturer-specific upgrades called affinity levels. There are 50 levels for each manufacturer, which apply to all cars from that manufacturer. The game also features three new real tracks: Hockenheimring, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Infineon Raceway, along with a fictional one called Bernese Alps.
Players can create clubs and share cars in garages among club members. Importing their Forza Motorsport 3 profile allows players to transfer in-game credits and gifted cars. The game supports both classic controller mechanisms and gestures-based control through the Kinect peripheral, which can be used together with a regular controller for a more immersive experience.
A feature called Autovista allows players to walk around and explore a vehicle using Kinect, but it's only available for a limited number of cars.
