Grand Slam Tennis 2 is the sequel to the Wii exclusive Grand Slam Tennis . Originally Xbox 360 and PS3 versions were planned for the first game, but those were eventually turned into a sequel, not available for the Wii. The game focuses on the major four Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open, French Open, US Open, and Wimbledon) with all the top players licensed for their name and likeness. Compared to the cartoon-like look of the first title, this one has a much more realistic visual style.
The game features commentary from Pat Cash and analysis by John McEnroe. Players can choose from famous contemporary players such as Djokovic, Federer, Henin, Murray, Nadal, Sharapova, Williams, as well as historical players like Becker, Borg, Evert, McEnroe, and Navratilova.
The gameplay involves a control scheme called Total Racquet Control, which allows players to determine the accuracy, power, and precision of shots using the right analogue stick. The system can be practiced under McEnroe's guidance in the Academy, or players can use a separate control layout with specific button assignments for different shots.
The main career mode can last up to ten years, where a new player can progress through multiple seasons until reaching the number one spot. Players can participate in training sessions, exhibition matches, and minor tournaments, earning points that contribute to their total ranking. The game also features quick games for singles and doubles, online matches, classic matches, fantasy matches, and more.
Players can design a custom tennis player with options such as outfits, accessories, and equipment. They can also import a photo using an online application, which models the player's head to create a unique appearance.
