The Warriors is a PSP action & adventure game that follows the story of a Coney Island street gang. Based on the 1979 Paramount Pictures film and voiced by most of the original cast, The Warriors expands and defends their turf months before the events of the film. With a citywide reputation, they can get invited to a major gang meeting where the future of New York street crime will be decided.
The game follows the nine lead members of The Warriors , with flashback missions showing how they came to be part of the gang. The player controls each member, usually acting as a war chief and leading a squad on a mission. Missions vary from simple fights to completing objectives while avoiding arrest or worse.
During missions, players can engage in various activities such as mugging pedestrians, stealing car radios, committing smash and grabs, tagging walls, or bombing other gangs' burners. They can also load up on flash. Between each mission, The Warriors returns to their Coney Island hangout where they can train to improve their stats, go out on patrol, review their accomplishments, replay levels, or enter into quick-play combat matches.
The game plays like a squad-based brawler, with each Warrior having his own fighting style. The environment can be weaponized, and fights are fast and often brutal. Stealth is also an option, allowing players to perform stealthy finishing moves and distract police or other gang members with thrown bottles. The 3D environments allow Warriors to escape along rooftops, hop over fences, or dash into shadowy areas.
