Need for Speed is a racing game where you can participate in various modes of play. In one mode, you'll race against other cars with traffic cops trying to ticket you if you're going too fast. Another mode lets you use a radar gun to pull over speeding racers or computers.
The game has some new features like Pursuit mode, where you must outrun the police through long, open tracks while also staying ahead of the pack. There's also Knockout mode, where you race through all the tracks and whoever is last after each race gets knocked out. Many courses in the game have hidden shortcuts.
The game comes with a variety of cars including Ferrari 550 Maranello, Ferrari 355 F1 Spider, Italdesign Scighera, Lamborghini Diablo SV, Lamborghini Countach, Jaguar XJR-15, Jaguar XK8, Aston Martin DB7, '98 Corvette C5, Mercedes SL600 and the Mercedes CLK GTR.
Need for Speed was released on PlayStation in May 1997.
