Imagine waking up in a strange castle with no memory of who you are or how you got there. That's the situation Fiona Belli finds herself in, Haunting Ground . She soon discovers that her parents died in a car accident and that she has inherited the castle. However, the people living in the castle aren't too pleased to see her as their new owner. As she tries to uncover the secrets of the castle, Fiona realizes that she must fight for her life.

The gameplay of Haunting Ground focuses on evasion and escape rather than combat. Fiona can defend herself, but usually finds herself running away from her enemies to avoid a fight. She uses items as distractions and relies on her dog, Hewey, to scout out rooms and warn her of danger. The relationship between Fiona and Hewey is crucial - the more affectionate and trusting she shows him, the better he performs his tasks.
