NHL 06 is an updated version of the popular hockey series, featuring new rules and rosters. The season schedules have also been updated, bringing a fresh start to the game. Many new features have been added, including signature moves for star players, improved shooting accuracy, and R.P.M. (Realistic Puck Momentum) dynamics that add randomness to the puck's movement.
The gameplay in NHL 06 is focused on skill and strategy. Players can use the left analog stick to perform deking moves and increase their shooting accuracy by moving a bull's-eye target onto the corners of the goal. The game also features statistics that affect players' momentum and turning radius, allowing for quick speed boosts past opponents.
The game includes all regular modes, including Dynasty Mode, which offers scouting and full management options both inside and outside the arena. A new feature allows players to intervene during simulated AI games and win matches for their team. The PC, PS2, and Xbox versions support online multiplayer games, and the original NHL 94 game is included as a special bonus with the PS2 edition.
