The Amazing Tater is a puzzle game that follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Kwirk. The objective of the game is to guide a small potato through each level without getting caught by obstacles. To overcome these obstacles, crates must be pushed into holes or out of the way to create a path.

The game features four different modes of play, catering to players of all skill levels. In Beginners Mode, the basics are explained and hints are provided to help the player solve each level. Practice Mode allows players to choose the size of the levels, which are then randomly selected. Puzzle Mode challenges players to complete 40 levels within a set time limit, with scores awarded based on completion time. Action Mode is a story-driven mode that tells two separate stories.
