The Alien versus Predator comic book series is the basis for this action-packed game. In the 25th century, humanity has established colonies on many planets, but one of them, New Shanghai, is plagued by strange and deadly alien creatures. When these aliens send out a distress signal, a cloaked ship from a mysterious group known as predators intercepts it. The predators see these aliens as potential trophies for their collection, and the player takes on the role of one of them.
The game follows the predator as they fight through several levels of alien creatures in a side-scrolling manner. With abilities such as attacking, jumping, sliding, and firing bolts from its shoulder cannon, the predator must use these skills to overcome their enemies. The shoulder cannon can also be charged up to unleash a powerful attack that harms both the player and the aliens. Throughout each level, players will find power-ups dropped by defeated aliens, including health boosts, trophy skulls, double-edged throwing weapons, throwing spears, and active camouflage.

In this sci-fi action game, players take on the role of a Predator whose clan has arrived on the colony world of Vega 4 to hunt a lethal infestation of Aliens. To secure honor and glory for your clan, you must navigate the infested colony and hunt down the hostile creatures, including their formidable Queen. Ultimately, your goal is to completely purge the Alien threat from the affected planets while collecting as many trophies as possible.
Story
The Discovery on LV-426
By the 25th century, mankind had outgrown the bonds of Earth's gravity field. Numerous worlds had been terraformed and colonized. But in all its spacefaring career, mankind had not yet encountered any significant alien lifeforms, with one little-known exception.
On planetoid LV-426, a six-man mining crew had discovered the eggs of a particularly dangerous parasitic creature. All records of that discovery have mysteriously been misplaced and the six-man crew is listed as missing.
The Infestation of Vega 4
Now it is 2493. The colonists of New Shanghai, on the 4th planet orbiting the star Vega, in the constellation Cygnus, had absolutely no knowledge of the Aliens when they found an underground cavern. In the cavern was the ancient ruin of a crashed spaceship, buried in an ancient Vegaquake, and, in the spaceship, some unusual eggs.
The colonists thought it the most important and exciting scientific discovery of mankind's history. But then the eggs hatched.
The Nature of the Aliens
The Aliens propagate by planting their seeds in the bodies of living and unwilling spacefaring hosts. In this way the Aliens infest planets far away from their own. They have no scientific or technological ability.
Their society is that of a hive. Their sole purpose in life is to live and multiply at the expense of other creatures.
A Call for Help
After the unearthing of the eggs, the Aliens quickly infested the city of New Shanghai, and the Alien plague began to spread to other areas of Vega 4. The once-prosperous colony world seemed doomed.
The governing authorities sent an emergency distress call to Earth. As fate would have it, the message was received and understood by a nearby spacecraft bearing, by chance, real hope for Vega 4's salvation. Salvation, however, was the farthest thing from the minds of the spacecraft's passengers.
The Arrival of the Predators
Mankind was about to meet yet another alien race. This new race possessed intelligence and an advanced technology. This new race had a complex society based on Honor, Glory, War, and the Hunt.
Man was about to meet Predator. The Predators, however, were far more interested in hunting the Aliens. At long last they had finally found a creature which would provide truly challenging sport. Mankind would benefit from the fateful meeting of these awesome creatures.
The Ultimate Goal
If you are successful, you will clear both planets of all Alien creatures, including the Queen herself. If you picked up many skulls, you will have amassed honor for yourself in the eyes of your Predator clan.
But don't mourn for the Aliens. With their vile method of keeping their species alive, there may yet be more of them somewhere in the Galaxy. When they are found, there will be more opportunities to hunt this lethal creature.
No matter how much the humans of Vega 4 may owe the Predators for showing up at this crucial moment, the two races will never be friends. It's just not in the Predators' nature.
How to Play
The Hunt Begins
You are a Predator, one among many. You must prove yourself worthy. If you are vanquished in battle, another shall replace you. Prepare yourself, for the mother of all hunts is about to begin.
Preparation
Insert the Game Pak and then turn on your system. You'll see the introductory sequence, followed by the title screen.
You can interrupt the introductory sequence at any time by pressing START on your Nintendo Controller. This will bring up the title screen, where you can select your game options.
To begin playing, press the START button when the words START GAME are displayed.
To change the game's settings before playing, press the + Control Pad UP or DOWN or the SELECT button to display the words CONFIG MODE, then press the START button. This will bring up the OPTION MENU screen.

Saving Settings
When you have finished choosing your options, press the START button to exit CONFIG MODE. You will go back to the title screen, and START GAME will be displayed; press the START button to begin playing.
If you change any of these settings and want to go back to the original settings, you can do so by turning off your Super Nintendo Entertainment System and turning it on again. Pressing RESET restarts the game without destroying your settings.
Your Quest for Honor
You are a Predator warrior. Valor in battle gives you honor in the eyes of the Predators in your clan. Dropped into the streets of New Shanghai, on the human colony world Vega 4, your task is to hunt all Aliens in the area, gaining honor points as you go. As you clear an area, you can move on to the next area.
There are ten areas in the game; five on the human colony world Vega 4, three in outer space, and two on the Aliens' home planet.
Some of the areas can only be completed after you defeat the Alien guarding that area. Guardian Aliens are harder to beat than regular Aliens, either because they're bigger and stronger, or because there are many of them. The game chart shows which areas have Guardian Aliens marked with a "√".

Bounceback
Items & Weapons
Light laser
A small laser blast fired from the shoulder-mounted laser cannon when the X button is pressed for a short time.
Medium laser
A larger laser blast fired from the shoulder-mounted laser cannon when the X button is held until the gauge is 2/3 full.
Heavy laser
The most powerful laser weapon, fired from the orbiting mother ship, which affects all Aliens on the screen but also hurts you.
Spear
A very powerful weapon that collapses to a shorter length for carrying.
Disc
A very useful piece of equipment, though not quite as powerful as the spear.
Invisibility
A flashing blue shield that makes you invisible for about 15 seconds, making it easier to fight Aliens.
Rhynth meat
A type of meat that restores a small amount of power and extends your power gauge.
Ptera meat
A type of meat that completely replenishes your power gauge.
Blue bottle
A bottle containing special Predator nutrients that increases your power a moderate amount.
Enemies & Characters
Alien skull
A vanquished Alien sometimes leaves its skull for you to take, which increases your score by 500 points when picked up.
Alien Drones
Vicious creatures encountered in large numbers that attack by leaping, biting with double jaws, or spitting corrosive acid.
Alien Warriors
Larger and tougher than the drones, they fight harder, charge faster, and are harder to defeat.
Alien Eggs
This is where facehuggers come from.
Facehuggers
Annoying and surprisingly agile creatures that are best defeated using the slide-kick maneuver while they are in the egg or on the ground.
Chestbursters
The weakest of all Aliens, they can be defeated most easily with the slide-kick maneuver.
Guardian Aliens
Mysterious Aliens that require you to look for clues as you fight through an area.
Alien Queen
A tough foe that will require you to use all your Predator fighting skills to beat.
Tips & Maps
Keep your distance from the Aliens
Jump away when Aliens get close to avoid their claws, tails, and inner jaws, and master the bounceback maneuver to maintain your distance.
When multiple Aliens attack
Use the throw maneuver to get them all on one side of you so you can use your laser on all of them at the same time.
Pick up rhynth meat
Rhynth meat extends your power gauge, allowing other power-restoring items to build real staying power for fighting.
Re-arrange the buttons
Go to CONFIG MODE to set up the controller buttons in the way that works best for you.
Fire your shoulder laser
Make sure you are lined up on an Alien before releasing the X button to avoid missing entirely.
Throw away a partially-used special weapon
It is sometimes advantageous to discard a partially-used spear or disc to pick up a new, fully loaded weapon.
The slide-kick maneuver
This maneuver is useful against facehuggers, chestbursters, Guardian Aliens, and the Queen, knocking them down to give you a momentary advantage.
Kick Alien eggs
Kick eggs as soon as you see them to prevent facehuggers from emerging and attacking you.
Watch out for chestbursters
In the caverns, be careful as chestbursters will pop out when you least expect it.
When you score a hit on the Queen
She will usually go flying and take a second to recover, but sometimes she recovers quicker without bouncing and charges unstoppably.
