Heroes of the Pacific is an arcade flying game set in the Pacific theatre of World War II. The game has six different modes to play through: Campaign Mode, Mission Mode, Instant Action, Training, Historical Missions and Multiplayer.
The story follows William Crowe, a young pilot who survives the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but loses his brother. Crowe vows to avenge his brother's death, pursuing the squadron responsible for his loss through the major battles in the Pacific. The game takes the player on a journey from Pearl Harbor to Iwo Jima, with each stage representing a different battle.
As players progress through the campaigns, they earn new planes to add to their arsenal. Initially, they start with basic fighters like the Warhawk and Wildcat, but as they complete missions and progress through the campaign, they are awarded more advanced planes, including fighters, dive-bombers, torpedo-bombers, and medium bombers.
The game features over thirty famous planes from World War II, each with its own unique characteristics. These include iconic planes like the F6F Hellcat, P-38 Lightning, TBF Avenger, and F4U Corsair, as well as lesser-known Japanese aircraft such as the A6M Zero "Zeke" and Ki-84 Hayate "Frank".
The game culminates in a final assault on Iwo Jima, where William Crowe's personal quest for revenge meets the war effort. With over thirty planes to choose from and six different modes to play through, Heroes of the Pacific offers an immersive arcade flying experience.
