Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood continues Ezio's story from Assassin's Creed II. Players take on the role of Ezio, using their assassin skills to liberate Rome and fight against the Templars. By completing missions, earning money, and freeing areas of the city from Borgia control, players can reclaim lost territory and restore shops, tunnels, and landmarks. This progress also earns a regular income from Rome's banks.
A new multiplayer component has been added to the series. Abstergo, the Templar organization, uses Animus devices to train recruits to become Assassins. Players take on the role of an Abstergo recruit, tasked with finding and assassinating targets while avoiding detection. As they play, points are earned to level up and upgrade their character's skills and abilities.
