Kinect Star Wars is a game based on the Star Wars license and entirely controlled through Microsoft's Kinect peripheral that tracks movement and voice commands. All included game modes are representations of Star Wars activities performed within various locations throughout the Star Wars universe. Players use Kinect and physical movements to control the on-screen actions of their character. Players can choose to play alone, or with a partner who can enter at nearly any time to participate cooperatively.

The game contains five game modes: Jedi Destiny, Galactic Dance-Off, Duels of Fate, Podracing, and Rancor Mode. The gameplay is diverse and offers something for everyone, from action-packed lightsaber duels to dance-offs with beloved characters.

Jedi Destiny: Dark Side Rising Mode pits players in a story-driven experience where they take on the role of a Padawan Jedi. Players have access to various abilities such as lightsaber attacks, force powers, and physical moves that enable them to navigate through different locations like Speeder Bikes, Land Speeders, and Ships.

Galactic Dance Off Mode is a lighthearted mode where players participate in a Galactic Dance Off against various characters from the Star Wars universe. This mode includes 15 music tracks that have been re-recorded to fit the Star Wars theme, set within four different locations.

Duels of Fate Mode is an action-packed mode where players engage in one-on-one lightsaber combat with progressively difficult enemies. This mode also features land-vehicle levels, space combat levels, and six lightsaber duel levels against iconic characters like Count Dooku and Darth Vader.

Podracing Mode allows players to take on the role of a podrace pilot and compete in high-speed races across five planets. The gameplay is similar to the Star Wars: Racer series , with players collecting power-ups, smashing competition, and attempting to arrive at the finish line first.

Rancor Mode lets players take on the role of a different Rancor type, each with distinct abilities, as they wreak havoc in various locations like Mos Eisley, Naboo, and Felucia. The player's goal is to gain points by smashing obstacles and fulfilling challenges.
