You are an apprentice Craftknight and the Edge Fencer, tasked with protecting Goura, a powerful summon creature trapped in a seal. Your father, a fellow Craftknight, died three years ago trying to contain Goura after it was freed by a rogue summoner. Now, you must protect the seal while honing your craft as a Craftknight.
As a Craftknight, you will create weapons using the combined power of your hammer and Guardian Beast. You can choose between four different Guardian Beasts, each with unique abilities and conversations throughout the game. The gameplay involves battles in side-scrolling areas, where you'll need to use your weapon or Guardian Beast's magic to attack, heal, protect, or enchant it.
The twist is that you don't craft weapons from scratch; instead, you use shapestones to create a specific type of weapon. There are six different types of weapons, each requiring a basic one to access certain areas of the game. You'll also have the ability to upgrade your weapons up to three times each.
Battles are similar to those in previous games, with side-scrolling combat against up to four enemies. Your Guardian Beast's magic can be used for various purposes, and some weapons will have special attacks that deal more damage. Additionally, you'll have the ability to Mono Shift, transforming into a more powerful being – but only once before recharging the item.
Summon Night Swordcraft Story is released on the Game Boy Advance in 2006-07-26 and offers an engaging RPG experience with its unique blend of exploration, combat, and character customization.
