The story of The Lost Vikings revolves around four kidnapped Vikings: Eric the Swift, Olaf the Stout, Baleog the Fierce, who are being held captive by an alien named Tomator. Tomator is a Croutonian ruler who has been collecting unique life forms to display in his gallery. The three Viking brothers must use their unique skills to defeat Tomator and his minions, including aliens, robots, giant snails, and big lizards.
The gameplay of The Lost Vikings is action-packed and puzzle-filled. Players control one Viking at a time, but can switch between the three characters at any point. Each Viking has their own skills: Eric can jump and run, Olaf has a shield that can block attacks and function as an air glider, and Baleog can shoot arrows or wield a sword. The player must use the Vikings' abilities in combination to progress through the levels and overcome obstacles.
The game features side-scrolling platform elements, with players needing to navigate the Viking through increasingly difficult terrain. Each Viking has three health points, and if all of these are lost, the Viking dies, forcing the player to restart from a previous checkpoint. The Vikings also have limited inventory space, which can be used to collect items and solve puzzles.

The Lost Vikings is a puzzle-platformer where players guide three uniquely skilled Viking warriors through the labyrinthine corridors of an alien spacecraft. After being abducted by an intergalactic zookeeper named Tomator, the trio must utilize Erik's speed, Baleog's weaponry, and Olaf's defenses to solve environmental puzzles and navigate time-space vortices. The ultimate goal is to work together to escape the ship and return safely to their village.
Story
The Vikings' Story
The Viking village celebrated the fall harvest with contests of bravery, skill, and a grand feast at dusk. The most anticipated event was a hunting competition to catch the most game for the evening's meal.
By noon, most hunters had arrived, but three Vikings living outside the village were late. Olaf the Stoutβ’, Baleog the Fierceβ’, and Erik the Swiftβ’ rushed into the forest after hearing the start horn to prevent others from gaining a head start.
Intergalactic Intrusion
Meanwhile, the infamous intergalactic zookeeper, Tomato, piloted his spacecraft through a fiery vortex above the Baltic Sea. He was confident he could find adequate specimens for his zoo on Earth and prepared for his own hunt.
After the feast, the three Vikings walked home, bragging about their triumphs, oblivious to the strange flying object that appeared over their village. Tomator brought his craft lower to locate the three specimens he had previously chosen, noticing them as victors in a primitive ritual.
Abduction
Tomator's computer located the selected humans and began teleporting them aboard. Erik the Swift was suddenly pulled upward from his bed, drawn through the roof into the night sky.
Olaf the Stout and Baleog the Fierce experienced similar fates, also being pulled from their beds toward the strange metallic object in the sky.
Stranded in Space
With the acquisitions complete, Tomator took his craft out of orbit. Due to a short circuit during teleportation, the Vikings materialized in the ship's corridors rather than the specimen room.
Their only hope to return home now lies in using their skills and the strange vortices that can carry them through time and space.

How to Play
Quick Start
The Lost Vikings is a game that involves three Vikings, each with his own skills. You must guide all of them through each level to the exit, using each of their skills at some point in the game.
Insert your Game Pak into the Game Boy Advance (GBA) with the power off, then turn it on. Press START to enter the Main Menu screen.
At the START screen, choose to start a NEW GAME or LOAD GAME from a SAVE GAME SLOT. If continuing a previous game, select LOAD GAME and press the A Button. Then select the desired SAVE GAME SLOT and press the A Button again. Refer to the Saving the Game section for more details.
How To Play
The goal is to help Olaf the Stout, Baleog the Fierce, and Erik the Swift find their way home. They must solve all levels across different eras until they confront and defeat their captor, Tomator.
To complete a level, all three Vikings must reach the EXIT alive. At the end of the last level of each era, a vortex will warp the Vikings to the next era.
Vikings start each level with three health points and no items. Health can be lost one at a time or all at once depending on the enemy or obstacle. The health status is represented by three red dots under their picture in the status bar at the top of the screen. Press SELECT to display this status bar.
The active Viking's health is always displayed in the lower left corner of the screen. Health points can be restored by eating food found throughout the game. Vikings can also use armor to gain a bonus health point, represented by a blue dot.
Vikings must use their skills cooperatively to solve puzzles. One Viking cannot use his skills alone to complete any level.
The game automatically saves your progress when you reach a new level. You can start this game later by using the LOAD GAME menu.
In early levels, hint buttons with a question mark appear. When a Viking is near one, press and hold the R Button and then press the A Button to receive a hint.
Inventory Control
Each Viking can carry up to four items. If there is room, the Viking automatically picks up an item when touching it. To use an item, press SELECT to open the inventory and move the flashing box to the desired item.
Press SELECT again to close the inventory. Once an item is selected and shown in the lower left of the screen, press the USE ITEM button to use it. See Game Controls for details on the USE ITEM button.
Vikings can trade items if they are close to each other. Switch control to the Viking holding the item you want to trade.
Press SELECT to open the inventory, then move the flashing box to the desired item. Press the A Button to select the item for trading.
Move the item to another Viking's inventory using the +Control Pad. Press the A Button again to confirm the trade. Press SELECT to begin play again.
Saving The Game
The Lost Vikings allows you to continue where you left off by loading a saved game. The game automatically saves your progress at the beginning of each new level.
When creating a new game, you will pick the memory slot to use. To load a saved game, pick LOAD GAME in the main menu and press the A Button.
Select SAVE GAME SLOT to load. The game reminds you of your progress by naming the slot and showing how far you have come with a percentage.
The save menu displays the following options:

Options
From the OPTIONS screen, you can turn the music and sound on or off. Access this screen by selecting OPTIONS from the START screen.
Move the controller down to the option you want to change and press the A Button. Select EXIT to go back to the START screen, or press the B Button.
The OPTIONS screen is only accessible from the START screen. You cannot change any options once you have started the game.
Tips & Maps
Give Up
If a Viking has died or the level is stuck, you can give up by selecting YES. This brings all dead Vikings back to life and restarts them at the beginning of the level.
Try Again
If you choose not to try again, you can start a new game or load a saved game from the Main Menu.
Hint
There are many hidden places throughout the game where Vikings can find something valuable.
Controls
Control Pad Left/Right
Moves a Viking LEFT or RIGHT.
Control Pad Up/Down
When a Viking is on a ladder or an elevator, pushing UP or DOWN will move the Viking in that direction.
Start
Pressing START during play will pause the game. When the game is paused you will be given the option to GIVE UP? Choosing NO will resume the game. Choosing YES will take you to the funeral screen where you will have the option to TRY AGAIN? Choosing YES will restart you at the beginning of the same level.
Select
This is the inventory mode button. To choose an item press SELECT, which will bring down the Vikings' inventory screen, and move the flashing box to the desired item. This can also be used to pause the game. Pressing SELECT again will resume the game.
A Button
PERFORMS A PRIMARY ABILITY Baleog the Fierce will swing his mighty sword. Erik the Swift will jump to great heights. Olaf the Stout will raise or lower his shield. Refer to Character Profiles for more details.
R Button held + A Button
Allows a Viking to activate buttons, flip switches and talk to other characters.
B Button
PERFORMS A SECONDARY ABILITY Baleog the Fierce will shoot arrows with his bow. Erik the Swift will bash his head while running, Olaf the Stout will raise or lower his shield. Refer to Character Profiles for more details.
R Button held + B Button
This is the USE ITEM button. It allows a Viking to use the highlighted (or currently selected) item that is in that character's supply of items.
R Button or L Button
Either R Button or L Button will enable the player to switch control to one of the other two Vikings. The buttons will cycle through the Vikings forward and backward.
Items & Weapons
Food
Heals 1 health point.
Steaks
Heals 2 health points.
Shield
Gives a Viking a bonus blue health point.
Bomb
You can drop them anywhere you like to blow something up.
Smart Bombs
Destroys all enemies on the screen.
Flaming Arrow
Kills an enemy in one shot.
Keys
Used to unlock doors of the same color.
Gravity Boots
Lets a Viking walk in a gravitational field.
Buttons
Used in many places to activate things in the game, like opening doors.
Switches
Also used in many places to activate things in the game, like opening doors.
Target
Acts like buttons but must be shot by Baleog to activate.
Enemies & Characters
ERIK THE SWIFT
The tactical genius and self-proclaimed leader of the party, Erik is the swiftest and most agile Viking. He has no defensive capabilities and a short attention span, but can bash open walls with his head of stone.
BALEOG THE FIERCE
Baleog provides martial skills to the expedition but suffers from an enormous ego. He can attack with a sword and shoot arrows to activate distant switches, but lacks mastery of defense.
OLAF THE STOUT
Jovial and sturdy, Olaf can block enemies with his shield and float long distances by holding it above his head. He is prone to unprovoked laughing fits and cannot always protect himself from jumping foes.
