Bomberman is a top-down action-arcade game where Bomberman 's goal is to rescue his loved one from the clutches of a black spaceman. The journey takes him through rivers, forests, and mountains, fighting his way through an army of enemies.
The gameplay revolves around Bomberman's ability to throw bombs behind him, which can be upgraded over time to increase their range. However, if he dies, he loses these upgrades and must start again from scratch.
Bomberman features nine levels per stage, each one more challenging than the last. The final level pits Bomberman against a tough boss that must be defeated to progress. With his bombs, Bomberman can move horizontally and vertically, lay down traps for enemies, but beware - he can also block himself with his own bomb.
Bomberman was released on December 7th, 1990 for the PC Engine console.
