A paramilitary syndicate known as the "Ptolemaic Army" attacks a research installation that was developing the next-gen of Metal Slugs and with this, they have successfully stolen a disc containing Metal Slug top-secret data. Fearing that such information be used for their evil purposes, the soldiers Marco, Tarma, Eri and Fio received orders to recover the disk and put a end in this syndicate.
The latest installment of the most famous arcade-shooting series brings a lot of changes: this time, you will not face Morden's army like in the previous games, but with a new group of enemies that composes the already mentioned Ptolemaic Army.
To add more content to this title, 3 guns (Big Rocket, Big Laser and Big Shotgun) and 2 vehicles (Slug Sub and Slug Plane) from past games were reincorporated, as well as all brand new stuff of 3 vehicles (Spider Slug, Slug Gunner and Slug Car).
The most important addition is a sliding move: pressing the B Button when ducking will make your character slide for a short time in the ground, which can be helpful to avoid some enemy attacks. During the sliding, you not be able to throw grenades, but your gun can be fired normally.

Metal Slug is an action-packed run-and-gun shooter where players control elite soldiers to combat terrorist organizations and recover stolen military secrets. You'll engage in intense firefights, utilize new movement abilities like sliding, and face off against a variety of enemies and powerful bosses.
Story
METAL SLUG 4 STORYLINE
In the year 20XX, a cyber-terrorist group called "Amadeus" has developed a computer virus named "white baby". This virus is intended to be unleashed through the internet to hijack the main systems of the world's militaries. It is said to be capable of breaching any security network.
International anti-cyber-terrorist groups are holding emergency meetings due to threats from "Amadeus". Their plan is to strengthen national military security systems and prepare a retaliation. The elite Special Forces unit "PF" has been called in to combat and eradicate Amadeus.
The PF unit comprises four highly trained soldiers: Marco, Fio, and new members Trevor and Nadia. They are tasked with stopping the virus and eradicating Amadeus at all costs. Other PF team members, Tarma and Eri, are dispatched to protect staff developing a vaccine for the virus.
Satellite images from information gathering reveal that Amadeus' forces are larger than expected. They are led by the dreaded, maniacal madman, Devil Rivers Morden.
Reliable information indicates that Amadeus plans to attack communication facilities in a few hours. You must stop the virus distribution and eradicate Amadeus immediately before it's too late.
METAL SLUG 5 STORYLINE
A research installation developing next-generation Metal Slugs is attacked by unknown forces, and a disc containing Metal Slug secrets is stolen. Marco and Tarma pursue the thieves, ordered to recover the disc.
Meanwhile, Eri and Fio, investigating the Ptolemaic Army (a paramilitary syndicate active in archaeological excavation), catch up with them at an ancient ruin called "The Corridor of Fire." The two attempt to storm and seize the site but are repulsed by natives and giant Metal Slugs.
This incident confirms that the Ptolemaic Army stole the Metal Slug secrets. The military subsequently launches a second raid by the elite PF Squad and Sparrows on "The Corridor of Fire" to recover the secrets and destroy the syndicate.

PlayStation 2 Console Setup
Set up your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system according to its Instruction Manual. Ensure the MAIN POWER switch (located on the back of the console) is turned ON.
Press the RESET button. When the power indicator lights up, press the OPEN button to open the disc tray.
Place the METAL SLUG 4 & METAL SLUG 5 disc on the disc tray with the label side facing up. Press the OPEN button again to close the disc tray.
Attach game controllers and other peripherals as appropriate. Follow on-screen instructions and refer to this manual for information on using the software.
Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2)
To save game settings and progress, insert a memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) into MEMORY CARD slot 1 of your PlayStation®2 system. You can load saved game data from the same memory card or any memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) containing previously saved games.
This game is designed for use with the separately sold PlayStation 2 Memory Card (8MB). Do not turn the PlayStation 2 console off or try to remove the PlayStation 2 Memory Card (8MB) while saving and loading game data.
Controllers
Both games are for one to two players and can be used with a DUALSHOCK analog controller and a DUALSHOCK 2 analog controller. When playing the game, insert the controller you want to use into PlayStation 2 Slot 1. When playing with a second player, insert another controller into PlayStation 2 Slot 2.
Commands are described herein for the DUALSHOCK 2 analog controller. Both games were designed solely for use with the vibration function of the analog controller and cannot be used in analog mode. The controller vibrates if the analog controller's LED is on or off. The vibration function can be switched on or off using the Key Config in the Game Options Mode (see p. 9).
When using a PlayStation controller, the basic commands are the same as for those of the analog controller. Note that PlayStation controllers have no vibration function.
You can reset the game during game play by pushing the START and SELECT buttons together.

Marco Rossi
This guy is Mr. METAL SLUG. Nice yet tough, Marco has been with the Metal Slug series since it began and is one of the most beloved characters in the franchise.
Fio Germi
Fio will have to fight harder than ever this time. She definitely does not want to be shown up by her new/younger teammate, Nadia in METAL SLUG 4.
Eri Kasamoto
Eri is a Sergeant, Second Class in the Sparrows Squad of the Government Forces Intelligence Agency, known for her lock picking and survival skills.
Tarma Roving
Tarma is a Captain in the PF Squad of the Government Forces and Assistant Leader of First Squad, known for painting metal and sleeping anywhere.
