The game is based on the 2005 movie Fantastic 4 . Unlike many licensed titles, this third-person action game only takes elements of its plot from the actual movie and changes them to make for better gameplay. The story features the main characters, but also draws inspiration from the comic books, introducing additional villains such as the Mole Man, Puppet Master, or Diablo.
The gameplay primarily consists of walking the heroic title characters around a level and defeating enemies in combat. Completing mission objectives often requires navigating through the enemies, with failure resulting from being overwhelmed by them. Defeating enemies earns points, which can be used to upgrade characters with new special moves or unlock bonus materials.
A co-op mode is also available, allowing players to play through single-player missions with a second player in a tag-team setting.
