Horde , a 3DO action & adventure game released in 1994, follows the story of Chauncey, a loyal serving lad tasked with defending his monarch from the clutches of Hordlings. The King rewards Chauncey with Grimthwacker, a magical sword, and a village to protect, setting him on a mission to prosper by vanquishing the evil forces. As Chauncey progresses through the game, he faces increasingly difficult challenges and earns favor from the King, while also attracting the ire of the High Chancellor.
Gameplay in Horde revolves around defending villagers, crops, and cows from Hordling attacks. Each type of Hordling has its unique behavior, requiring strategy to protect your charges. The game measures success by the number of survivors each season, with better performance unlocking new challenges and upgrades for Chauncey's arsenal.
