Echoshift is a spin-off of echochrome , but while the original had the player distorting space to create pathways through optical illusions, this game uses a time bounce mechanic, where small sections of time repeat themselves over and over again.
The levels take place in a 2D side-scrolling environment, unlike the original's 3D spaces. Each level has a timer set on it, with lengths ranging from 30 to 50 seconds. The goal is still to reach the end of the level, but this time using the time bounces: each time the timer runs out, the player is sent back to the start, and shadows will appear, carrying out actions performed by the player in the past.
Echoshift was released on November 1st, 2009, for the PSP. The gameplay involves navigating through levels with a unique time-bending mechanic. The player must use the time bounces to overcome obstacles and reach the end of each level within the time limit. With multiple attempts, the player will start to notice subtle changes in the environment, as the shadows carrying out actions in the past start to take effect.
