Wave Race Blue Storm is the sequel to Nintendo's Wave Race 64 and offers several modes of play, including tournament cup series, time attack mode, stunt mode, and Free Roam mode.
The game features eight racers, each with its own balance in engine and handling, allowing players to customize their experience. Players can change the color of their racer, optimize the engine for acceleration or speed, and optimize handling to be tight or loose. However, these settings have little effect on the racer's actual performance.
Players can compete in four tournament cup series, participate in time attack mode against the best track times, and earn points in stunt mode. Multiplay is supported in Stunt and Race modes, allowing for head-to-head competition with friends.
The game features eight different courses, each with a total of 19 racing tracks, plus one stunt track per course. The game also includes five different weathers, such as Sunny, Partially Sunny, Light Rain, Rain, and Stormy, which can dramatically affect the tracks and require different strategies to succeed.
