In the New Correct Dimension, the star ship Yamato and the Crossbone Vanguard embark on a desperate quest to reach the distant Iscandar star system in search of hope to save an Earth dying from the Gamillas' Empire's planet killer weapon. In the AD Dimension Might Senpuuji, the richest boy fights against criminals in Nouvelle Tokyo, while the girls of Arzenal island protect their world from dragons. In the Universal Century Dimension, a broken world ravaged by war and ecological disaster attempts to heal as Mithril investigates Out Of Place technology. Super Robot Wars V is a standalone title in the Super Robot Wars franchise, marking its 25th anniversary. This entry features the first appearance of Space Battleship Yamato, which does not have any robots. The player selects their pilot, either Souji Murakumo or Chitose Kisaragi, who can be renamed. Depending on the pilot, reactions during cutscenes and missions change. The game follows a similar flow to past SRW games: Base mode, Adventure mode, Scenario mode, and then back again. In Adventure mode, the player watches the storyline play out, occasionally making decisions on which route to follow. In Scenario mode, the player deploys forces to defeat opponents or achieve objectives.
Pilots level up with experience from enemy defeats, gaining stats and learning new Spirits that boost their abilities. Defeating opponents awards Tactical Points, which can be used to buy additional ranks of stat-boosting Skill Programs. Pilots do not naturally learn any Skill Programs, but Tactical Points belong to a single pool. Money earned in combat can be used to Customize mecha, boosting their stats. Some pilots can be swapped between mecha within their respective franchises. In Scenario mode, the player selects battleships and units, places them on the map, and attempts to complete objectives.
The game features an optional objective that makes the primary objective more difficult. Completing this objective rewards SR points and money. The game also has Hard mode with reduced reward money and boosted enemy stats, as well as Beginner mode, which locks difficulty on Standard but still awards a money bonus.
Returning from Super Robot Wars OG: The Moon Dwellers is the sound edit feature, allowing players to select theme songs for any unit in their force. MP3s can even be imported, allowing units to have literally any music for their attacks.
Super Robot Wars V is available on Nintendo Switch, a Strategy game released on 2019-10-03.
