High Voltage Software is an independent video game development studio based in Illinois. Established in 1993, the company has developed over a hundred games across various genres and platforms, ranging from original intellectual properties to licensed ports and adaptations. During the late 1990s, they worked on notable releases such as LEGO Racers and the 3D remake of Paperboy.
The company's early portfolio featured diverse genre offerings for fifth-generation consoles. In 1995, the developer released
Ruiner Pinball for the Atari Jaguar, alongside the sports title
White Men Can't Jump for the same platform. They expanded their console presence in 1997 with the release of
Tempest X3 on the PlayStation and
World League Basketball on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
During this period, the studio also secured high-profile licensing partnerships. They developed
LEGO Racers (1997) and
Paperboy (1997), followed by subsequent versions of
LEGO Racers (1999) and
Paperboy (1999) for different platforms. These projects established the developer's capacity for handling major intellectual properties and adapting classic arcade gameplay for modern home consoles. Over the following decades, the studio transitioned into collaborative co-development roles on major industry franchises, providing engineering, art, and design support for external publishers.
