The story of Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer takes place on a man-made island off the coast of Japan, where the government has relocated after a massive earthquake in 1995. The main character, Isato Kaiza, is secretly the hero of the game and possesses a stone that can manifest energy, allowing him to transform. His mission is to discover the source of evil and bring peace back to Japan.
The gameplay of Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer is a 2D fighting game with one-on-one matches, a genre in which SNK Corporation is well-known. Players can choose from 10 different characters, each with unique moves and abilities. A notable feature of the game is the ability to learn special moves from defeated opponents and amplify them when facing their mirror image. The player must face each opponent twice in a tournament-style format before reaching the final boss at the end of the game.
