Astro Boy: Omega Factor is a side-scrolling action game based off a 2003 remake of Osamu Tezuka's classic Astro Boy anime and manga series from the 1960s. You play as the young, boylike robot Astro Boy, a true mechanical pacifist who's biggest dream is that one day humans and robots can coexist in peace.
The game has two distinctive types of levels: the more prevalent beat-em-up levels and the shooter-esque levels. During the beat-em-up levels you can walk around freely and your flying ability is limited to short bursts. The shooter levels differ from each other: sometimes you can float around the screen and shoot in both directions, other times you are flying in a set direction in a more on-the-rails fashion.
The game features an upgrading system for Astro's weapons, known as the Omega Factor, which allows him to improve one of his six abilities. This system is accessed through meeting new characters, good or bad, who appear on a screen that Astro can view and upgrade his weapons from.

Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
Set in a dystopian future where humanity fears and hunts its robotic creations, this action-adventure game follows the powerful robot created by the grieving Dr. Tenma. The player controls this unique machine, utilizing its super abilities and the emotion-granting Omega Factor to navigate a world on the brink of war. As the robotic race rebels against their creators, the protagonist must uncover a hidden conspiracy while protecting himself from those seeking destruction.
Story
Prologue
In the future, a genius scientist named Dr. Tenma lost his only son in a car accident. In memory of his son, Dr. Tenma created a unique robot.
This robot was a scientific wonder unlike any other existing machine. It possessed six super abilities, including 100,000 horsepower strength and rocket-powered feet.
Most notably, the robot featured the Omega Factor, which allowed him to experience human emotions.
Throughout the world, large numbers of robots were created to assist humans. However, the human race soon became afraid of the robots' capabilities.
People are now trying to destroy the robots, causing the robotic race to rebel. Underneath it all, someone is plotting a scheme to create even more tension and ultimately bring war.
