Rage Racer is a racing game that features three main tracks with distinct starting lines, leading to completely new and varied environments. The tracks take you through different landmarks, cities, natural wonders like lighthouses, tunnels, waterfalls, ruins, and European-style villages.
The graphics have improved significantly from the previous games, moving from unrealistic and cartoonish settings to more realistic racing courses. This change in style allows for a more immersive experience for players. Additionally, all tracks can be unlocked and played in reverse, adding replay value to the game.

Controls
Directional buttons
Use to turn the steering wheel left and right while racing. Use for cursor movement when making selections.
START button
Use to confirm all menu selections. During the game, press this button to pause, unpause, or exit the race.

How to Play
Driving Views
Practice using the neGcon™ to get the fastest lap times. You have two kinds of views to choose from while racing: Drivers View and Behind the Car View.
•
Change views by pressing the A button.
•
If using the neGcon™, change views by pressing the B button.
neGcon™ Caution
If your neGcon™ twist control is oversensitive or biased when starting a game, this is not a fault. For example, in Rage Racer™, the car may veer even when not touching the neGcon™.
This can be fixed by calibrating your neGcon™ in the Options menu, following instructions on the Key Configuration screen.
Save & Load
Select this icon to go to the Save & Load Data Screen.
•
Select Save or Load using the Directional buttons and press the O button to confirm.
•
Select the desired data file with the Directional buttons then press the O or the START buttons to confirm.
•
Up to three game files can be saved on one Memory card.
Note on Memory Cards
Memory cards can only be used in Memory card slot 1. Make sure you have enough free blocks on your Memory card before commencing play.
Save/Load Options
•
Save: Saves data.
•
Load: Loads data.
•
Exit: Returns to the title screen.
Explanation of the Game Screen
1. Ranking: Displays your current position in the race.
2. Time Limit: Displays the time left. The race is over when the time reaches zero.
3. Tachometer: Displays the engine revolutions. Shift up to the next gear when it reaches the red zone for maximum acceleration.
4. Rear view mirror: Displays what's behind your car.
5. Record: The fastest lap time for this track.
6. Lap Time: Indicates the lap time for each lap.
7. Speed: Tells you how fast you are traveling.
8. Gear Position: Indicates what gear you are using.
Pause Menu
Pause the game while racing by pressing the START button. The Pause Menu will then appear.
•
Make a selection using the Directional buttons and then press the START button to confirm your selection.
•
To hide the rear view mirror, press the A button + L1 button when paused.
•
Press the A button + R1 button to return the mirror.
Pause Menu Options
•
CANCEL: Cancels pause.
•
RETIRE: You lose one chance unless you retire during the starting countdown.
•
CHANCE: Tells you how many chances you have left.
Grand Prix Navigation
Use either the O or X buttons to select options or the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to go back to the previous screen.
1. Course Select
The tracks will change when you repeatedly press the LEFT/RIGHT Directional buttons.
•
Select the track you like, then choose a menu selection by moving the UP/DOWN Directional buttons.
•
Then press the O button.
•
There are 4 tracks. (Classes 1 & 2 consist of 3 tracks).
Course Select Display
1. Names of the Grand Prix.
2. Track Medallion: 1st/Gold, 2nd/Silver, 3rd/Bronze.
3. Names of the tracks.
4. Length of the course.
5. Prize money.
2. Select Cars
•
Move the Directional button right or left to select the car type.
•
Move the Directional button up or down to Race Start and press the O button.
You have only one car to begin with. As you win more prize money, you can visit the car shop to buy up to 13 cars as they become available. Each car has 2-5 grades. The higher the grade, the better overall performance the car will have. Each car maker is grouped into 4 major categories.
Car Select Display
1. Grade.
2. Transmission: Although you can select your transmission with the Customize option, there are certain cars that can only use manual transmissions (MT).
3. Performance Graph: The longer the bar, the better the performance.
Car Performance Traits
Cars are categorized into 4 different types, but their performance can greatly differ depending on their grades. Check the following points on the screen to determine your car's performance.
Acceleration
Gives you more power for going up hills and more power to increase the speed of your car.
Maximum Speed
The higher the maximum speed, the more advantage you have at winning tracks with many straight-aways.
Handling
A car with high handling will have an easier time cornering. Handling performance will be an important factor in tracks with many sharp turns.
Grip
Cars with strong grip have better traction in the turns, but are not good for drifting. Less grip means less stability but makes drifting easier.

You can design your own car by selecting Customize on the Car Select Menu.

Make your selection with the Directional button then press the O button.

Tire: You can increase the traction up to 5 grades.
•
Transmission: Select either AT (automatic) or MT (manual). Some cars only have manual transmissions, and their gears can differ from 4 - 6 gears.

ASSOLUTO
Assoluto-made sports cars have the highest maximum speed and are recommended for oval tracks.
Mythical Coast
A 2.88-mile track with hills, running along the coast past Mediterranean style villas and a chapel. Standard Performance cars like the Gnade are recommended.
Over Pass City
The longest and most spectacular circuit at 4.13 miles, featuring many hills similar to San Francisco. Cars with high acceleration are recommended.
Lakeside Gate
A 3.88-mile road with beautiful scenery, including a lake, but known for its very tricky and challenging turns. Cars with good handling are recommended.
The Extreme Oval
A 1.9-mile track consisting of two very long straight-aways connected by two giant turns. Assoluto cars are recommended for winning races here.
Drifting
A technique used to slide gracefully through tight corners, which can allow for the smoothest cornering on sharp turns, although it is generally slower than Grip Driving.
Acceleration Drifting
To perform, release the accelerator as you approach a corner, then begin accelerating after starting your turn, steering towards the opposite side of the corner's direction as you drift, and finally straightening and accelerating when aligned with the road.
Brake Drifting
To perform, turn before entering a corner, press the brake button once (without pressing acceleration), then accelerate again to drift, applying this technique at low speeds.
Grip Driving
A technique to take turns without drifting by braking and accelerating at the same time as you approach a turn, then slowly releasing the brake as you finish the turn.
Shifting Gears
To maintain smooth acceleration, keep your engine running fast by shifting gears often, checking the RPM meter and engine sound; manual cars offer less power loss and can be faster than automatic cars.
