Ancient Writings
Deep within the forests of Verdite, a hidden cavern holds a monument to the Highest Elf. Inscribed with ancient writings, only a direct descendant can decipher them.
The writings state: "It is written. A great ship has fallen from the heavens, It struck the Island of Melanat, and was buried deep within the Island. Those who come from far-away lands to seek its buried treasures shall never return alive. Never approach the island...for the sleeping beast in the darkness awaits the great awakening."
The Island of Melanat
The mystical Island of Melanat lies amidst the northern continent's three countries: Granatyki, Egret, and Verdite. It is controlled by forces of both good and evil.
In ancient times, high-elves built a holy shrine on the island. Monsters then emerged from underground, killing most of the elves, with the survivors succumbing to mysterious poisons.
Thousands of years later, King Harvine, ruler of the unified northern countries, attempted to build a castle on Melanat. Monsters attacked his men, forcing his retreat and weakening his power. This led to the division of the land into Granatyki, Egret, and Verdite.
Legions of monsters then crossed from the island to the northern continent. Egret and Granatyki were destroyed, and the people of Verdite now fear an impending invasion.
The Legends of the Lands
Many villagers believe either a good god, Sieth (the White Dragon), or an evil demon, Guyra (the Black Dragon), lives on the Island of Melanat. A centuries-old legend speaks of valuable crystals found there.
This legend has drawn many poor people to the island in search of hidden treasures. Those who survive the crossing are afflicted by an evil poison, becoming its slaves and unable to leave the island.
However, the legend also mentions two kinds of water on the island. One is purifying and can free those poisoned, though its location is unknown. The powers of the other kind of water are also unknown.
The History of Verdite
Alfred, a young warrior, returned to Verdite from the Island of Melanat, where he had searched for his father. His father had left years ago to slay the evil monsters on Melanat.
Though Alfred did not find his father, he survived the island's tribulations. Soldiers opened the gates of Verdite Castle for the weary Alfred, and the eldest of the kingdom declared his return a miracle.
Alfred recounted his adventures, revealing that the monster he sought to slay was the former King of Verdite, now known as the Black Dragon. He also spoke of his search for his father and his fight with the Black Dragon.
Alfred then displayed his greatest treasure, the Great Moonlight Sword, found on Melanat. Captivated by his courage, the villagers crowned him King Alfred.
The Fall of Verdite
Peace reigned in Verdite for a few years until monsters appeared in nearby caverns. King Alfred went to destroy them but discovered his powerful Moonlight Sword had been stolen. Without it, he could not defeat the monsters.
King Alfred dispatched a search party for his treasured weapon. Soldiers searched every villager but found no trace of the sword. They did, however, find a letter in the forests of Verdite.
Written in ancient script decipherable only by high-elf descendants, the letter read: "Necron seeks the powers of the Moonlight Sward. He lives on a mystical island, in the midst of the northern continent. Necron controls the Island of Melanat."
King Alfred immediately sent his soldiers to the Island of Melanat, hoping to uncover the truth and find his magical sword. His soldiers were never heard from again.
The Great Journey
Several months later, King Alfred's best friend, Alexander, visited Verdite Castle. Alfred told him about the missing sword and the monsters. Alexander, with the King's permission, vowed to go to Melanat, destroy the monster, and retrieve the sword.
While crossing to the island, Alexander's ship was attacked and destroyed by Creatures of the Sea. All the King's men were lost, except for Alexander, who drifted to a small reef.
Regaining consciousness, Alexander saw an island in the distance. He swam to shore, losing his weaponry and armor in the murky waters. He then stumbled towards the island's caverns.
