Scylla, a rival of Hugolina's beauty, is jealous and seeks to capture her. To eliminate Hugo, Scylla uses a magic mirror to trap him, then breaks it into three pieces and disperses them across the game world. The troll kids must find and collect the broken mirror pieces, combining them to release Hugo and allow him to confront Scylla.
The gameplay involves platform jumping on a 2D scrolling screen through 30+ levels, where players encounter various enemies like beavers and soldiers. Using magic freeze-rays, enemies can be frozen into iceblocks and then dropped from a height to shatter, revealing health items or coins. At the end of each location (10-12 levels), a boss appears carrying a mirror piece.
Hugo The Evil Mirror was released for the Game Boy Advance on 24 April 2005. The GBA and Game Boy Color versions have different graphics, with the GBA featuring video sequences similar to the PC/PS1 versions, while the GBC uses slideshows of still images for the story.
