Air Zonk, developed by Hudson Soft , was released on the TurboGrafx-16 in 1992. This 2D side-scrolling "cute 'em up" shooter is set in a cyberpunk-esque future and features a cartoonish style reminiscent of the Bonk's Adventure series.
The gameplay of Air Zonk may appear different at first, but it remains a traditional shoot-'em-up. Players have access to various weapon power-ups, including cards and metal mandibles, which are used to defeat enemies in five different environments, such as a stadium. Additionally, players can choose from ten "friends" that will fight alongside them once a specific power-up is collected.
Air Zonk features unique power-ups and enemies, including giant garbage heaps, killer football players, and strange hybrid forms when combined with other friends. The game's story revolves around defeating King Drool, rescuing the moon, and saving the world, leaving it up to the player to determine the outcome.
