Mighty No. 9 follows the story of Beck, a humanoid robot who, along with his companion Call, must stop other robots from turning against humans. These rogue robots, called Mighty Numbers, start attacking everyone in their path, leaving only Beck and Call functioning properly. The two are tasked with finding out what's causing this robotic uprising and stopping it.
The gameplay in Mighty No. 9 is similar to classic action-adventure games like the Mega Man series. Players control Beck as he navigates through levels, fighting enemies and collecting power-ups along the way. By defeating enemies, Beck can absorb their Xels, which grant him temporary boosts such as increased defense or healing. He can also use his absorbed Xels to transform into a different robot with unique abilities. Call is available for co-op play, offering a different set of skills that complement Beck's.
