The story of Shining Soul takes place in a world where the balance between Light and Dark has been disrupted once again. The hero's previous victory over the Dark Dragon has led to a period of peace, but as the Light grows stronger, the Darkness begins to rise once more.
A prophet warns the people of the impending dangers, but his words fall on deaf ears. An agent of the Darkness, Gillespie, kills the prophet and shatters his crystal, ensuring that the people remain ignorant of the threat. The "Forbidden Fruit" is given to Deatharte, the trusted adviser to King Marcel, who becomes embroiled in the conflict.
Players take on the role of a new hero, choosing from eight possible characters, as they embark on a journey to stop the growing Darkness. Along the way, they meet an adventurer who teaches them how to battle. The game's story is interrupted by the king's quest to find his missing daughter, leading to the main event: saving the world from Darkness.
The gameplay of Shining Soul features real-time battles against monsters, with resistances increasing when used. Standing on fire outside the castle increases resistance, but also causes damage. Traps can increase resistance, while also inflicting harm. Players must take on many challenges, cast spells, acquire new equipment, and ultimately save the world from Darkness.
