Rune Factory 4 introduces its protagonist on an airship, tasked with delivering a vital item to the town of Selphia. However, their journey takes a dramatic turn when they're ambushed by two men, leading to a fierce battle that results in them falling off the ship and losing their memory. When they awaken, they discover that they've been named prince or princess of Selphia, and must now assume royal duties while working alongside the town's common citizens.
The gameplay is a familiar blend of farm simulation and role-playing elements, reminiscent of the Harvest Moon series. A new feature in this installment allows players to create female protagonists from the start, adding a fresh layer of depth to the game. Long-term relationships with eligible characters can be cultivated before proposing, a unique twist on the traditional RPG experience.
