Burnout is an arcade style racing game in the mold of the Test Drive or Need for Speed series. In this game, you are racing on realistic streets with real traffic to contend with.
The game features 6 courses, 3 from Europe and 3 from the USA, each with its own unique atmosphere and challenges. You can choose from a variety of vehicles, including compact cars and pickups, although they are not based on real makes and models.
The "Burn Meter" is a key feature in Burnout . It's a gauge that fills up by performing reckless stunts, such as racing into oncoming traffic or power-drifting through corners. Once the Burn Meter is full, your car gets a speed boost. However, if you crash, the Burn Meter resets and must be filled again to achieve a boost.
Burnout was released for the Gamecube console on 29 April 2002 and belongs to the racing genre.
