Tales of Destiny 2 is part of the Tales of... series, but it's not a direct port of Tales of Eternia , which was released in the West as Tales of Destiny II . This game is connected to Tales of Destiny through its setting and plot, making it one of the few "true" sequels within the franchise. The story takes place 18 years after the events of Tales of Destiny . Kyle, the son of the previous game's hero, is searching for support for an orphanage operated by his parents. On his journey, he meets a girl who emerges from a powerful energy source called Lens. She tells Kyle that she is on a quest to find a true hero, which leads to Kyle being identified as the chosen one.
Tales of Destiny 2 follows a similar gameplay style to its predecessors. The game features town and dungeon exploration, random combat, and side-scrolling action-based battles. For the first time, a zoom feature allows for a more detailed view of combat.
Player-controlled characters can learn skills of different tiers, which can be chained into combos. Combos increase damage inflicted on enemies and provide bonus experience. Powerful special techniques cost technical points (TP) and spirit points (SP) to execute.
