Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a platformer that begins with Sonic returning from vacation to find that Tails, his friend with two tails, has gone missing. A letter from Tails informs Sonic that Dr. Robotnik has kidnapped all of the animal friends on the island and is holding Tails in a place called the Crystal Egg.

The objective is for Sonic to find and collect six Chaos Emeralds, which will allow him to free Tails. However, he must also face off against Robotnik's latest creations: six new robots designed to stop Sonic once and for all.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is played on the Sega Game Gear console, where Sonic can run, jump, and use various attacks to defeat enemies. The gameplay features fast-paced action and challenging levels, requiring quick reflexes and strategy to progress through the game.
