Admiral Razorbeard and his gang of robot pirates have enslaved all the creatures in Rayman 's world, including the peaceful Teensies and the Lums, which give life to the earth. Rayman has been captured by the pirates as well and is lamenting his troubles in his prison cell when he meets his good friend, Globox. Globox has smuggled in a silver Lum, given to him by the great fairy, Ly. With the power of the silver Lum, Rayman is able to once more shoot his fists. With his power restored, the pair escape the flying prison ship and embark on another adventure to save the entire world!
Rayman 2: The Great Escape is a 3D action-adventure game that follows the story of Rayman , who must find the four masks of the world to reawaken Polokus, the spirit of the world. Along the way, he will encounter various challenges and obstacles, including robot pirates and new worlds filled with yellow Lums.
The game features a variety of unique abilities that Rayman can use to get around the world, such as his hair which allows him to hover like a helicopter, and special purple Lums that he can swing from. He also has access to various items, including powder kegs, warheads, and gigantic plums that can be used to create new paths.
The goal of Rayman 2: The Great Escape is for Rayman to gather the yellow Lums, which will give him access to new worlds and allow him to collect new powers and life meter extensions. However, this task is not easy, as the masks are well hidden and guarded.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape was originally released for the Nintendo 64 and Windows platforms, but later versions were released for other consoles, including the Dreamcast, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2. Each version has its own unique features and changes compared to the original.
