Shining Force III is set in a world of fantasy and magic where you play as a young general tasked with preserving the peace. The story begins when the Emperor is abducted from Saraband, and you must flee with the King, who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the abduction. As you progress, you'll uncover a web of lies and deceit that will lead you to question everything.
The game builds upon the style of its predecessors, offering a graphically overhauled 3D landscape and 3D characters during battle animations. The gameplay is similar to traditional RPGs, with you controlling the main character, interacting with NPCs, and searching for items. However, the real highlight of the Shining Force series – its battle sequences – has been refined with a new "friendship" system.
The combat system introduces a unique mechanic where characters develop closer bonds as they work together, granting bonuses in battle. Traditional features like rock-paper-scissors-style weapon interactions and terrain effects remain intact, ensuring a familiar experience for fans of the series. Despite being a western conversion of Shining Force III: Episode I , the game offers an engaging storyline that's sadly cut short by its limited release outside Japan.
