Nintendo Power , released on 1997-09-30, was a video game competition held by Nintendo. The event took place in 132 towns across Japan, with the town winners being flown to San Diego, California to compete against each other.
The players competed in a series of challenges based on popular SNES games. They had to complete the first level of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels , from the Super Mario All-Stars version, complete five laps in Super Mario Kart , and hit as many long home runs as possible in the home run derby from Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball . The ultimate winner of the competition was determined by playing a modified cartridge of Donkey Kong Country .
