Odama is a quirky pinball title set in feudal Japan. You are in control of a giant steel ball, called the Odama, which you use to crush the enemy army (and hopefully not your own soldiers) so that you have an easier time leading the Ninten Bell to its destination.
The game also takes advantage of the GameCube microphone (included with most versions), which you use to command your troops. You must use the commands and pinball skills to successfully lead the Ninten Bell to its destination before sunset in each mission.
You control the flippers with the L+R buttons, activate the microphone with the X button, and tilt the battlefield with the control stick. The goal is to bring the Ninten Bell closer to the Karasuma Keep, where you will exact revenge for the betrayal of the Yamanouchi clan's founder.
The basic goal is to guide the bell from the bottom to the top of the screen, mowing down enemy soldiers with the Odama and your own troops. Killing them is crucial, as they'll make the flippers inactive if they reach your side of the screen. Failing to complete a mission or running out of morale will result in failure.
You'll learn commands for your soldiers as you progress, allowing you to control them more effectively. However, using certain commands recklessly can drain your Morale Bar, making it difficult to issue commands. You'll also find items that aid you on your quest.
The combination of fast-paced gameplay, voice commands, power-ups, and storyline makes Odama a unique and challenging title. While it's a pinball game at its core, the added elements set it apart from other titles in the genre.
