X-Men: The Official Game is based on the third X-Men film. The game lets you control either Wolverine, Colossus, Iceman or Nightcrawler through twenty-five stages of a traditional side-scrolling beat-'em up. You move through the levels usually to find the exit. The stages can scroll from left to right, top to bottom or are designed more like a labyrinth. Enemies are getting rid off using a variety of punches. The characters differ hereby in range and the damage they deal. Every character also has his own special attack and some abilities on his own. For example, Colossus can smash certain materials while Wolverine regenerates his health over time.
While you start off the game as Wolverine, you are later joined by the other characters and may switch between them any time. Every X-Man also has his own power bar, which is filled up by collecting blue symbols, which can be used to increase the amount of damage you deal for a period of time.
The Game Boy Advance was released as X-Men: The Official Game on January 2006. It is an Action & Adventure game. You will control one of four characters in this action-packed game, each with unique abilities and powers.

Extracted from the original game manual
Set in the X-Men universe, this game tasks players with leading the mutant team on a perilous mission to Alkali Lake following the tragic death of Jean Grey. After stealing Cerebro components and kidnapping students, the villain Colonel Stryker must be stopped while the X-Men recover the stolen items. Players will navigate a facility resurrected from the past to uncover shocking secrets and resolve the lingering consequences of the previous conflict.
Story
Introduction
Colonel William Stryker raided the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters in a daring move. He stole two core components of Cerebro, the X-Men's mutant tracking system. He also took several students hostage. Using these items, Stryker built a crude but functional version of Cerebro for his own dark purposes.
A combined strike force of the X-Men and the Brotherhood rescued the kidnapped children. They successfully stopped Stryker's plans before they could unfold. However, this victory came at a heavy cost. Jean Grey sacrificed her life to ensure the X-Men could escape. Her death allowed the team to continue Charles Xavier's dream of peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants.
The Mission
The X-Men must now return to Alkali Lake to retrieve the missing Cerebro components. The team will discover that the location holds shocking secrets. Ghosts from the past remain very much alive in this setting. Business continues as usual at Alkali Lake.
The facility itself is not the only thing seemingly resurrected from the dead. The X-Men are about to uncover truths that will shock them to their core.
How to Play
Getting Started
1. Make sure the power switch is OFF.
2. Insert the X-Men: The Official Game Game Pak into the Game Boy Advance slot as described in your instruction manual.
3. Turn the Power Button ON.
NOTE: The X-Men: The Official Game Game Pak is for the Game Boy Advance system only.
Quick-Swap Character Portrait
Below the currently controlled character's portrait, a portrait of the next character in line is displayed. By tapping the L Button, you'll swap characters and the portraits in the On-Screen Display will also swap.
Pausing
Pressing START will freeze all action and bring you to the Pause screen. The Pause screen displays the following:
•
Continue: Resume currently paused gameplay.
•
Quit: Quit current game and return to the Main Menu.
Character Swapping
You'll begin the game with three X-Men at your disposal: Wolverine, Iceman and Colossus. Through the course of the game you'll unlock Nightcrawler. You can swap among any of the X-Men at any time (other than during character-specific areas) to best attack each new challenge. Swapping replaces the previously controlled character with the newly selected one.
The L Button is used to character swap in two different ways. By tapping the L Button, you can immediately swap to the first character in your queue. This is called a quick swap. Once a swap has been made, the previously controlled character will now be queued up for the next quick swap.
By holding down the L Button, the quick-swap character's portrait will disappear and in its place a +Control Pad will show with all available characters' portraits, each assigned to a direction on the +Control Pad. Wolverine is to the right of the pad, Iceman is to the left, Colossus is on the bottom and Nightcrawler (if he's unlocked) is on the top. Holding down the L Button will also freeze all action as long as the button is held down.
While still holding the L Button, you can move a cursor over any of these characters by pressing up, down, left, or right on the +Control Pad. Whichever character is highlighted by the cursor when the L Button is released will be swapped in for gameplay. If you press no direction, or to a character who is not available, the quick-swap character will be loaded instead.
Power-Up Items
There are three types of power-up items that can be found throughout the game. Power-up items are generally hidden in destructible objects, such as boxes, or may be earned after defeating particular enemies. All power-up items take immediate effect and cannot be saved for later. They'll generally take effect on whichever character picks up the item. Power-up items include:

Health (Red): Replenishes character's health bar.
•
Charge (Blue): Fills up one charge meter bar instantly.
•
Revive (Yellow X): Allows one fallen X-Men character to be available again.

Enemies & Characters
Colossus
The strength of the team and a selectable character from the start, Colossus can transform his skin into an organic steel mesh to become the strongest member, though he moves slower and jumps lower than other X-Men. His strength allows him to break through some walls.
Iceman
A quiet and dedicated member selectable from the start, Iceman can manifest ice and snow to attack enemies with bursts or launch icy projectiles from afar. While his basic attacks are not as strong as Wolverine's or Colossus', he excels at ranged combat.
Nightcrawler
Unlocked as you progress, Kurt Wagner is the fastest X-Men character with the highest and farthest jumping ability, along with substantial acrobatic skills and the power to teleport through walls. Players must look for areas that only he can access.
