The Legend of the River King is a unique RPG that focuses on fishing as its primary objective. The game offers two modes of play: The Fish and Raise .
In The Fish mode, you play as a young boy searching for the Guardian fish, which can cure a disease caught by your sister Teruyo. This mode combines RPG elements like buying items, talking to the town's folk, and searching the local river for the Guardian fish. The fishing element comes into play when you bait or lure fish at the river in hopes of finding it.
The Raise mode allows you to purchase a fish tank and its accessories, then raise a small fish. Similar to Pokémon-type games, you can feed your fish, keep the tank clean, and raise the fish. This mode provides a relaxing and nurturing experience, offering a break from the adventuring aspects of The Fish mode.
The Legend of the River King was released on December 14th, 2000, for the Game Boy Color console.
