You start out with just one unit and a small local area, but your goal is to guide your civilization into becoming the dominant force. You can either conquer every other civilization or send a spaceship to Alpha Centauri. This task comes with many challenges.
One of the main challenges is managing resources. You need to locate cities that provide food, construction, and trade resources. These resources can be improved by constructing buildings such as roads, mines, and farmland. Each city can only construct one item at a time - units, buildings, or Wonders of the World.
The Wonders of the World are unique advantages that offer great strategic effects. There are 28 wonders in total, each with its own effects on defenses, scientific research, trade, and food output. You also need to manage your scientific output, which requires trading off against financial and military concerns.
Combat can occur in cities or on the open terrain, taking into account factors such as terrain type and unit abilities. Unit fights can be intense, with the strongest unit fighting unless it's a city or Fortress. Cities that lose all defensive units can be captured by opponents.
Keeping good relations with other civilizations is crucial. You may need to trade knowledge, resources, or pool military forces with neighbors at times. However, be aware that your reputation will suffer if you break deals.
