THE HISTORY OF METAL SLUG
In 1996, METAL SLUG: Super Vehicle 001 was released on the NEO-GEO MVS arcade system, becoming an arcade legend. This military-themed side-scrolling platform game was known for its humor, cartoon style, fluid hand-drawn animation, and fast-paced two-player action. Its popularity led SNK to develop and publish seven more METAL SLUG sequels.
Over the next 10 years, the franchise's worldwide popularity resulted in many iterations across multiple platforms. From arcades to home consoles and handheld systems, METAL SLUG has left a lasting impression on gamers. You might even still find an original METAL SLUG arcade unit in a local pizza shop or other arcade.

GAME OVERVIEW
METAL SLUG
Story
At the beginning of the 21st Century, the Regular Army and the Rebellion are at war. The Regular Army is a government-run force for peacekeeping and fending off terrorism. The Rebellion seeks to change the world-government into a military-controlled one.
In 2026, the Rebellion Army launched an assault that pushed the Regular Army to the brink of destruction. The Regular Army's commanding officers failed to realize the value of intelligence provided by their division. With superior numbers, the Rebels overwhelmed the Regular Army.
Seeing their disadvantage in direct attacks, the Regular Army decided to carry out special operations and create vehicles for their commandos. A newly designed tank, code-named "Metal Slug," was forced into production.
The war continued for two years. During this time, the Regular Army stockpiled "Metal Slug" tanks, hoping to launch a massive assault. However, in 2028, the Rebellion forces discovered and captured many caches, including intact tanks.
Without these tanks, the Regular Army had no hope of winning, and with them under Rebel control, their demise seemed inevitable. With the government and military in shambles, Lieutenant Rossi gathered scattered Regular Army troops for a desperate counterattack. Their mission: recapture the stolen vehicles and use them to destroy the opposition, or destroy every last one if they couldn't be captured.
