Die Hard is a third-person action/adventure game set on thirty floors of the Nakatomi Tower high-rise. Terrorists have taken hostages during a Christmas party, and as McClane, the player must search for them through different levels. The default pistol holds infinite ammo, and machine guns and grenades can be collected to aid in the mission.
Die Hard 2: Die Harder is a first-person arcade gun game, similar to Virtua Cop. Players automatically move through Washington/Dulles Airport, shooting bad guys that appear from behind scenery. Weapon upgrades can be collected and used to aid in the mission.
Die Hard With A Vengeance features players racing through New York City streets in vehicles, trying to locate bombs before they explode. The player must follow directions and collect power-ups to aid in the mission.
All three games feature exaggerated violence and use a combination of graphics to generate their worlds, resulting in some quirky effects.

Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
This is an action-shooter game where you play as Detective John McClane, fighting terrorists across various locations. You'll engage in gunfights, defuse bombs, rescue hostages, and participate in vehicle chases to thwart their plans.
Story
INTRODUCTION
You are Detective John McClane, a cop with a bad habit of always being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's up to you to wipe out terrorists, free hostages, and defuse bombs.
You'll need brains, skill, deadly weapons, and the guts to take on impossible odds.

NAKATOMI PLAZA: THE OBJECTIVE
You are in the parking garage of Nakatomi Plaza, a Los Angeles skyscraper wired to explode. Above you are 19 more floors, crawling with terrorists. They aim to steal millions in negotiable bonds and won't hesitate to kill hundreds of hostages.
Fight your way up, floor-by-floor, to the rooftop. Search hallways, office suites, the grand ballroom, and even floors under construction. Kill all terrorists and rescue as many hostages as possible.
Once you kill the last terrorist on each floor, a bomb is activated. It will appear on your map as a flashing dot. Get to it in time, and you'll automatically move to the next floor. Fail, and Nakatomi Plaza will be obliterated.
WASHINGTON/DULLES AIRPORT: THE OBJECTIVE
You arrive at Washington/Dulles Airport to pick up your wife, only to find it crawling with terrorists. They've come to rescue a South American dictator and drug kingpin being flown to the US for trial.
You see all the action through McClane's eyes as he races through the terminal, annihilating terrorists, but hopefully not civilians and hostages. The chase continues with rapid-fire speed until you bring down the terrorist escape plane.
CONTROLS
The program controls McClane's movement, scrolling from one area to the next, starting, stopping, or moving continuously as needed. You control McClane's weapons, aiming, firing, and throwing explosives.
Aim by moving the CROSS-HAIR on the screen with Directional buttons. The AUTO ZOOM will zoom in on the view in the Cross-Hair for more accurate aiming.
When the action extends past the edges of the screen, an ARROW on the outer edge of the Cross-Hair will point to terrorists lurking just out of sight. Moving the Cross-Hair to the edge of the screen will cause McClane to turn his head and bring this area into view.
SNOWMOBILE CHASE
If you make it out of the airport, you'll find yourself engaged in a high-speed Snowmobile chase. Slaughter the cold-blooded terrorists as you slalom through the blinding snow.
PLANE INTERCEPT
After the snowmobile chase, you're ready to board a chopper for your final mission: Plane intercept. Target the four jet engines in buffeting winds at 12,000 feet.
BONUS SCREEN
If McClane flies the unfriendly skies successfully, you'll see the results here. Bonus points are awarded for the number of Terrorists killed, Hostages saved, and remaining health.
DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE
NEW YORK CITY: THE OBJECTIVE
This time, a gang of terrorists led by the twisted genius, Simon, has stashed bombs throughout the city to cover a multi-billion dollar heist. Simon says John McClane is the only one who can defuse them.
It's a test of your nerves and driving skills. You and your reluctant partner, Zeus, will seek out and commandeer more than fifteen different vehicles.
Blaze through the traffic-choked streets of Chinatown in a high-powered sports car. Scatter some skaters in Central Park in a dump truck. Grab a cab and drive it right into the subway system.
You've got to get to the next bomb and run it over before it detonates. Then, outrun the terrorists before they escape.
