Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball is set in a future where mass unemployment has led to a surge in violent crime, prompting the creation of a new, extreme form of basketball. The game takes place on a small court with 2 and 3-point shooting areas, but physical contact is allowed, and the court is littered with mines and bombs that can wound players.
Gameplay involves holding down fire to get the height right when shooting, while avoiding being tackled by opponents. Other basketball rules such as double-dribbling are waived in this version. A 3-division league allows players to progress through levels of difficulty. The game is a Speedball clone and was later ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
