Major League Baseball 2K6 is an update to its previous years' version, featuring roster updates as well as a three year report of all teams and players in the game. The new movement system adds realism to player crashes and introduces a morale system where better players improve their teammates' performance.
The game features standard modes such as exhibition, season, and a new feature allowing players to take on the role of an international team in the World Baseball Classic as one of sixteen teams in a tournament style play. Players can also challenge umpires if they feel a call has been botched, which affects the team's morale.
Major League Baseball 2K6 includes TV broadcast "flashback replays" for a real TV presentation experience, with commentary from Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. The Xbox 360 version shares similarities with previous generations in terms of graphics, but with some additional dialogue and commentary. Derek Jeter endorsed the game and appeared on all console and handheld releases.
The game also offers online capabilities for each console version, allowing players to download a friend's profile using the V.I.P. system, which provides access to their stats and results, helping players gain an upper hand in online matches against friends.
