The follow-up to Puyo Puyo is a puzzle game where the goal is to combine four or more blocks of the same color, which then disappear. The remaining blocks will then fall down and can produce combos that can cause special blocks to appear on the enemy's field.

Puyo Puyo features a story mode, in which Arle fights against computer enemies, a vs player mode, a four-player mode (SNES only), and an endless mode (SNES only). In the story mode, players control Arle as she battles to rescue her friends from the clutches of Dr. Boyster.

The gameplay is all about clearing the screen by combining blocks, while also creating combos that can harm your opponent. You'll need to think strategically and react quickly to eliminate Nuisance Puyos before they cause trouble.
