Robots is based on the Blue Sky film of the same name, and takes players on an adventure to save Robot city. When Rodney Copperbottom travels to Robot City to meet Big Weld, the famous inventor, he finds that something is wrong. Big Weld is missing and the evil Ratchet has taken over Big Weld Industries. With the help of his friends the Rusties, Rodney puts an end to Ratchet's villainous ways and restores order to the city.
Robots features a unique gameplay style that combines 2D side-scrolling with 3D views. The game takes the player to locations from the movie like Robot City, Big Weld's Mansion, the Outmode, and Madame Gasket's Chop Shop. Players can build and upgrade Rodney's weapons using the invention mode, which includes items such as the wrench, scrap gun, electro zapper, and magno grenade.
Players will also encounter robots in need throughout the city, with missing parts that can be found hidden in the numerous maps. Returning these correct parts rewards the player with power-ups and weapon upgrades. The maps are interconnected, allowing players to easily find their way back to previous areas to uncover additional secrets.
The Game Boy Advance version of Robots features a map that can be annotated by the player, while the Nintendo DS version includes high-resolution maps with more detail than the GBA version. The DS also introduces new features such as a unique 3D transit ball game and 3D menus.

In this action-adventure game, players control Rodney Copperbottom, a young inventor navigating a corporate takeover in a city dominated by the villainous Ratchet. The premise centers on rescuing a gang of "Rusties" and uncovering an evil plot that threatens the existence of all robot-kind. Players battle through armies of mechanical minions to save their friends and restore hope to the robotic community.
Story
Introduction
A gifted young inventor, Rodney Copperbottom, moves to the big city to realize his dream of working for his childhood hero, Bigweld. Rodney arrives at Bigweld Industries along with Wonderbot, his mechanical sidekick.
Bigweld is mysteriously absent, and the corporation is now run by Ratchet and his evil bots. Rodney meets a gang of Rusties, colorful outmodes that help him discover an evil plot: Robot-kind is in danger of being reduced to scrap metal!
Rodney, the young and brave bot, has to defeat an army of mechanical minions to save his friends.
How to Play
Controls and Setup
To play, turn OFF the power switch on your Nintendo® Game Boy® Advance before inserting the Robots Game Pak. Never insert or remove the Game Pak while the power is ON. To lock the Game Pak in place, press it firmly into the slot.
Turn the power ON to begin. The Legal Screen appears, followed by the introduction sequence. Press the A Button to advance to the Title screen, then press START to reach the Main menu.
Main Menu Options
When at the Title Screen, press START to begin the game. The Main menu provides the following options:

Select Game: Choose a SAVED GAME to play.
•
Copy Game: Copy a SAVED GAME.
•
Delete Game: Delete a SAVED GAME.
Saving and Management
To copy one SAVED GAME to another:
1. Highlight a previously saved game, then press the A Button.
2. Highlight a saved game you wish to copy to, then press the A Button.
3. Use the + Control Pad to highlight YES to confirm, or NO to cancel, then press the A Button.
At any point, you can press the B Button to cancel back to the previous step.
To delete a SAVED GAME:
1. Highlight a previously saved game, then press the A Button.
2. Use the + Control Pad to highlight YES to confirm, or NO to cancel, then press the A Button.
At any point, you can press the B Button to cancel back to the previous step.
Zip Line Challenge
At the end of Bigweld Mansion, Rodney grabs onto a seemingly endless Zip Line course. Press the A Button to jump from one Zip Line to another, and use the B Button to attack flying Dominoes with Rodney's Wrench.
If Rodney loses the challenge, he will be returned to Bigweld Mansion to replay it. Once successfully completed, the Zip Line Challenge becomes available to play at any time from the Title Screen.
Gallery Screen
Access the Gallery Screen at any time by pausing the game and selecting Gallery. Use the + Control Pad to move the cursor Up, Down, Left, and Right.

Found images appear as thumbnails; press the A Button to view the full-sized image.
•
Press the B Button to return to the Gallery Screen, or to return to the game from the Gallery.
There are 50 images total to discover, including scenes from the Robots Movie, special stills created for the game, and pre-production artwork.

This icon lets you know where you currently are on the map.
Wonderbot Actions
This section includes various abilities allowing Rodney to control the Wonderbot, such as exploring inaccessible areas, gliding during jumps, reaching heights with a trampoline, sliding along zip lines, and digging into nooks and crannies.
Navigation Map
Pressing SELECT brings up the Map Screen showing your current location and revealing the city as you progress, while the Inventory Screen can be accessed by pressing L or R, and the B button returns to the game.
Invention Screen
This screen allows players to rotate and move upgrade pieces on a blueprint using the control pad, locking them into place with the A button to build new gadgets.
Transit System
Rodney can use Transit Stations to travel quickly around the city by navigating a transit track with the control pad while avoiding collisions and gathering health or gadget pick-ups.
Jack Hammer's Oil Rush
A mini-game where Rodney serves oil canisters to customers on a conveyor belt, losing a chance if a customer rejects the oil, a canister is dropped, or a customer reaches the end without being served.
