Imagine yourself as an executive of a criminal syndicate in a dark cyberpunk future, tasked with carrying out missions to eliminate rival executives, retrieve valuable objects, or kidnap scientists. As the leader, you control teams of cyborg agents on their objectives, using them to take out enemy agents and overcome obstacles.
Gameplay involves controlling one to four agents at a time in isometric view, directly selecting potential targets with the help of automatic targeting. The stages are self-contained, unlike previous versions where multiple layers were involved.
Between missions, you'll have access to taxes from conquered territories, which can be spent on researching new weapons and cybernetic upgrades for your agents. These include upgraded versions of previously seen items, with some notable exceptions, such as the flame thrower being replaced by a 'chiller'. Other familiar features, like indirect control using drugs to influence adrenaline, perception, and intelligence, also return.
The game is released on Super Nintendo Syndicate , a console that adapts the computer original for its capabilities, featuring a more cartoonish style, multiple differences in gameplay and controls, and new levels.
